Hand-Painted Barro Cup & Saucer | Slate Blue
Cool slate blue sets the stage for a burst of color on this little cup and saucer. Round rosettes of white and orange dots surround coral centers, and deep navy leaves rise between them like branches reaching up from the base. The pattern continues across the saucer, so the two pieces look made for each other. This is capulineado, the patient dotting technique from Mexico named for the small, dark capulín cherry, paired here with hand-painted leaf motifs. Every dot and brushstroke was applied by hand by skilled artisans in Mexico.
Made from barro (traditional Mexican clay), the set includes a compact, softly tapered taza with a curved handle and a matching saucer with a gently raised rim. The matte, hand-painted finish keeps the natural feel of the clay, and the terracotta interior shows at the opening. Because everything is painted freehand, no two sets are exactly alike.
Display it on a kitchen shelf, a coffee bar, or a windowsill, or use it as a small holder for a tea light, ring, or tiny plant on the saucer. The blue and coral palette is bold but balanced, and it works in cottage, boho, eclectic, and Mexican-inspired spaces. It makes a lovely gift for housewarmings, birthdays, Mother’s Day, and anyone who collects handmade pieces.
