Jarrito Floral: Handmade Painted Barro Mug
A soft, dusty sage-gray surface becomes a little garden here. Coral flowers with dark centers bloom in a ring around the body, and between them deep teal leaves fan upward in graceful sprays. Delicate rings and rows of tiny cream dots surround each flower and trim the neck. The dotting comes from capulineado, the patient technique from Mexico named for the small, dark capulín cherry, here paired with hand-painted florals. Every flower and dot was applied by hand by skilled artisans in Mexico.
Made from barro (traditional Mexican clay), the jarrito has a round, cozy body, a gently flared rim, and a sturdy curved handle in the same sage tone. The matte, softly weathered finish lets the clay’s natural character show, and the terracotta interior peeks out at the opening. Because everything is painted freehand, each jarrito is a little different.
Display it on a kitchen shelf, a coffee bar, or a windowsill, or let it hold small flowers, spoons, or pens on a desk. The muted sage with warm coral accents works with farmhouse, cottage, boho, and Mexican-inspired spaces. It’s a lovely gift for housewarmings, birthdays, Mother’s Day, and anyone who loves handmade, hand-painted pieces.
