Tortillero Capulineado: Handmade Lidded Barro Dish
A creamy white surface becomes the canvas for a ring of navy leaves that fan out like feathers, surrounded by circles of tiny dots in terracotta orange, olive green, and chocolate brown. Rows of delicate ringed dots trim the top of the wall and the edge of the lid, and the pattern continues across the full lid up to a smooth, round knob. This is capulineado, the patient dotting technique from Mexico named for the small, dark capulín cherry, paired here with hand-painted leaf motifs. Every dot and brushstroke was applied by hand by skilled artisans in Mexico.
Made from barro (traditional Mexican clay), this tortillero has a wide, round body with a fitted lid. It follows the shape of the traditional vessel Mexican kitchens use to keep tortillas warm at the table. The glossy finish makes the cream glow and the colors pop. Because everything is painted freehand, no two pieces are exactly alike.
Set it on your table at taco night, family dinners, or holiday gatherings, or keep it on the counter as a handsome accent. The soft neutral base and earthy palette fit farmhouse, rustic, boho, and Mexican-inspired kitchens. It also makes a standout gift for housewarmings, weddings, and anyone who loves to cook and entertain.
